THE STORY BEHIND ARTS JUBILEE'S
Family Friendly Admission PROGRAM

The change from "donate at the gate" to "Family Friendly Admission"

As a result of the successful “Donate at the Gate” program begun in 2009, Arts Jubilee will continue the request so we can keep the concerts coming. An admission fee of $10 for adults, $ 8 for Seniors – 65 and up, will be requested at the gate at each of the concerts this summer. Kids 12 and under will continue to be free. “This will help keep Arts Jubilee in the black,” said Cindy Russell, Executive Director, “and assure that our popular family-friendly concerts will continue in 2012. The reward for the generosity of our concert audience will be the knowledge that they have helped keep our high quality live performances coming. Arts Jubilee is gratified to know that our patrons support this new format and have been pleased to help do their share to keep this incredible entertainment available here in the greater Mt. Washington Valley.”

Arts Jubilee continues to present major summer concert events during the summer located in nature’s most beautiful and peaceful setting at the base of the north slope at Cranmore Mountain Resort, North Conway. Within a short walking distance of North Conway village, the concerts provide the highest quality live music performances with an early concert featuring many talented local professionals beginning at 6 PM and continuing at 7 PM with the main performance by top quality musicians normally found at other venues outside our area. These top notch performances are available locally with convenient parking nearby, indoor restroom facilities, and food and beverages offered by the staff of Zip’s Pub on the deck. “We are fortunate to be able to continue to offer such great concerts right here in the valley, and the price is right! Our audiences are very much aware that they would have to pay as much as $50 or more to be able to see the performances Arts Jubilee presents, and we are grateful to our generous sponsors for helping to defray enough of the expenses to permit us to ask for such a small donation at the gate.”, said Russell.

In the past, Arts Jubilee scheduled a fund raiser each fall to raise necessary funds to help make up any deficits that occurred when collections were taken at the concerts. The fundraiser, which annually raised over $10,000 for Arts Jubilee’s coffers, was ended when the major sponsor of the event had to withdraw their support. When considering a fund raiser which might replace the Vacation Auction, the Arts Jubilee Board concluded that our area already supports many fund raisers on a weekly basis and asking the audiences who appreciate the concerts to increase their support at the performance would be a welcome and reasonable alternative to asking our patrons to support one more fund raiser. “I’m reminded of the old saying ‘there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch’”, commented Russell. Historically, the saying has come to mean: that If one individual or group gets something at no cost, somebody else ends up paying for it.

“We began by calling it a "Donate at the Gate" program in an effort to encourage the people who look forward to Arts Jubilee concerts, attend with family and friends and enjoy the spectacular live music performances, to support the costs by contributing as much as they can afford. The suggested donation was a minimum guide, but of course, we are always pleased to accept larger donations.”

As Arts Jubilee faces the same economic challenges that are effecting both the business and non-profit communities everywhere, it is important to face the fact that if we do not receive the financial support from the very people who enjoy the concerts, we will eventually face the possibility of losing Arts Jubilee altogether. Those are hard facts, but Arts Jubilee hopes that the reasonable admission fee requested at the gate is a good compromise and is perceived as "the best entertainment value in our valley!

A final note: Please understand that if you are feeling especially generous, or have had a special "Arts Jubilee Moment" at one of our concerts and would like to make a donation beyond the admission fee, we will happily accept your contribution! Thank you to all who have supported Arts Jubilee in the past, and to all those who will continue to support this very special event in our valley.
