The
Return of Ceili Rain
|
Introduced
to the valley by WMWV-FM 93.5
and George Cleveland and Mark Johnson,
these guys are AWESOME!!
If you have been at their other Arts Jubilee concerts - you'll
know you want to return,
And if you've missed their ealier appearances, be sure to mark
you calendar
and prepare for a night of upbeat and lively music
- appropriate for the entire family!
Ceili
Rain is one of the most unique bands
to emerge from Nashville in some time.
(check out their music HERE
)
|
| The
group can best be described as
Celtic pop/rock,
complete with accordion, bagpipes, tin whistle, and fiddle. |
| Lyrically
the band is sustained by
hit tunesmith Bob Halligan, Jr., who has had cuts
by Judas Priest, Cher, Michael Bolton,
and Kathy Mattea.
Halligan’s
songs deal with life issues such as aging (as in “Jigorous”,
which describes an old woman reveling in life again at a family dance)
and coming to terms with mistakes as the title cut states “that’s
what erasers on pencils are for”.
“The Fighting Chair” is one of the best cuts on the Album
as Halligan uses a fishing analogy to encourage the listeners to stop
standing on the shore line, get on the boat, strap themselves into the
fighting chair and start trying to reel in a big one.

Halligan’s
songs provide
a soundtrack
for mankind’s journey,
and prove once again
the power of music
to uplift and encourage.

MARDIS
GRAS IN AUGUST
~ NEW ORLEANS JAZZ
featuring New Orleans Jazz musician,
James Andrews
|

James
performing at the Katrina Benefit
doing his 'Satchmo' impression,
accompanied by Kelly Muse.

James at Jackson Grammar School
in Fall 2005
|
Valley
residents will remember after the Katrina disaster that Badger Realty
sponsored a Mt. Washington Valley Jazz Fest Benefit Concert. The
concert featured displaced New Orleans musicians along with some
local talent to present an evening of great music, delicious food
and fun for all.
One of the stars of that great evening was none other than James
Andrews. And, now Arts Jubilee is proud to announce that James is
returning for our special New Orleans Jazz - Mardi Gras style concert
in August.
James
Andrews, lead singer and trumpeter of The New Birth Brass Band,
is one of the most talented and charismatic figures on today's jazz
scene.
James
(locally known as “Satchmo of the Ghetto”) is a member
of a prominent New Orleans music family which also includes Prince
LaLa and Jesse Hill.
His forthcoming solo album, Satchmo of the Ghetto, which also features
Dr. John and Allen Toussaint, is a mix of traditional New Orleans
trumpet workouts, acid jazz-styled, instrumental funk and gruff,
soulful Louis Armstrong influenced vocals.
When
James was here in the valley in Fall 2005, he visited school children
from Bartlett and Jackson to Madison, and was greeted by those students
as a great 'hero'. He autographed everything from hands to sneakers,
and opened a great line of communication with the students.
Though he and his family have faced hardships in their lives, James
says
(about his love of music),
“The most important thing for me in my life
is passing it on to the children.
That’s how I overcome everything,
by passing it on to another person.”

Arts Jubilee
has historically begun each evening with a mini early concert designed
to showcase some of the valley's local talent and to greet the audience
as they arrive to spread out their blankets and enjoy a picnic supper.
Each of the early concerts during the summer is a gift from the performers
and Arts Jubilee is grateful for their generous donation which helps
to keep our budget in tact! urants, and
